MGB GT Vermillion – AFD 858S Restoration Project

This 1977 MGB was purchased in 2012 from its previous owner who decided not to continue with the rebuild of the car. It was partly dismantled however it was generally in good original condition for its age but the body and paintwork required attention.

The MGB entered our workshops and was checked over for an “MOT” and for all other mechanical aspects, all of this required work was then carried out and as part of our safety checks we replaced all the flexible fuel pipes to make certain all was well.

It then went to our “Strip” section of the body shop where all bumpers, lights, trims, interior trim, engine compartment parts and other relevant parts were removed in order to carry out the bodywork repairs.

Following this the “MGB” went to our “Panel-beating” section of the workshop, we then removed its front wings, bonnet, doors and boot lid to enable us to repair the left and right ¼ panel upper sections, wings and inner wings .In order to give a stylish look and get rid of the horrible rubber bumpers we carried out a “chrome” bumper conversion which involved fitting a lowering kit and body modifications required.

In our “Paint Preparation” section the body and parts were prepared, it was then painted with 2 coat of primer, the body parts were then offered up to fit and the wings, doors, bonnet and boot were all adjusted to fit as the years had taken their toll on the fit of these parts, we then removed the parts prior to the final colour coating.

The body and parts were prepared in preparation for colour top coat, it was the re-masked and in one of our paint booths the “MGB” received 3 coats of “ Vermillion “. All masking was removed and it was then polished and under-sealed in readiness to be rebuilt.

In our “Refit” section the “MGB” was then rebuilt using all quality and fit parts and the new parts as listed.

In our “Trim” section new carpets, interior trims and seats were fitted.

New Minilite style wheels and tyres completed the look.

The vehicle was then road tested and a full valet carried before it was awarded it's “MOT”. MGB GT AFD 858 S was delighted with its new coat and seats and now proudly awaits its new owner!!
