When most people think of a Mitsubishi Eclipse, they think of the iconic sports car of days past. Although never formally produced in the U.K the Eclipse still wowed motor sports fans throughout the 90s and the model was produced for many years in the U.S as an affordable and practical sport coupe. Now this name will be resurrected for Mitsubishi’s all new crossover SUV.
Set to rival the Nissan Qashqai, the all new Eclipse Cross will be available early 2018 in the U.K. Although engine specs are yet to be finalised for the U.K market so far we know that the Eclipse Cross will be available in a 1.5 four cylinder turbo petrol model as well as a 2.2 litre diesel option. Traditional Mitsubishi options such as 4 wheel drive and automatic models are also expected to be available at launch.
The stunning exterior design of the Eclipse Cross may come as a surprise to many who would hear the name Eclipse and be filled with memories of sporty coupes and track racing models. This all new model will instead marry the compact coupe form with a stylish and practical SUV body shape. Built around the muscular frame of the Eclipse Cross is a unique and innovative design. With stunning sharp lines and a sleek chiselled body this model is set to be the new standard in crossover SUV design.
Inside the new Eclipse is a cornucopia of technology. The touchpad controller located just next to the shifting knob for maximum comfort and minimum movement is your gateway to a world of innovative driving technology. With full smartphone links and efficient positioning of the 7 inch display to ensure minimal eye movement for viewing of data coupled with full voice control capabilities the Eclipse Cross has everything you need to safely stay connected while driving.
Furthermore driving the Eclipse Cross is set to be one of the most immersive and dynamic driving experiences ever created. With the latest in driving technology the Eclipse Cross will provide a unique approach to vehicle safety. Full lane departure warning systems will be in place along with adaptive cruise control and innovative blind spot warnings. Add to this Mitsubishi’s signature S-AWC vehicle dynamics system and you can confidently drive on a variety of surfaces and easily react to weather or surface changes.
