The new L200 Barbarian SVP is a beast. With only 250 units being sold worldwide this unique first offering from Mitsubishi’s brand new SVP division boasts some impressive features. This vehicle is inspired by the special one off Mitsubishi L200 Desert Warrior and it shows.
Developed in secret and codenamed “Project Swarm” the Desert Warrior was built as a one off desert racing model cooked up by the minds of Top Gear America host Tom Ford and world renowned engineer Ralph Hosier of RH Engineering. With massive additions such as an external roll cage, incredible new suspension, oversized wheels and more features to allow it to cross the rough desert terrain. This extraordinary vehicle has been heavily featured by Mitsubishi and provides the inspiration for the L200 SVP. Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, has gone on record as saying “The Mitsubishi L200 is one of the most durable pick-up trucks available, but the Desert Warrior takes it to a new level. In fact its purposefulness and ruggedness has provided the inspiration for the Mitsubishi L200 SVP, the first limited edition model to be created by our new SVP programme”.
The changes to the SVP may only be cosmetic, but the strong L200 backbone is a formula that as of yet has been unmatched. The massive 2.4 litre turbo diesel engine is still more than capable of overcoming any and all challenges which faces it. All of the usual tried and tested L200 features will be there on the SVP (which will be available in both Manual and Automatic transmission options). This means buyers will still have the luxuries available to existing L200 owners such as soft opening tailgates, reversing camera, premium leather heated seats, cruise control and the impressive satellite navigation and radio found in the current L200 models.
